Fix Cannot find the Rundll32.exe when open control panel item!

Many people probably encountered This message appear when you click on the Control Panel Items, or right click on my computer.

Reason 1: You have a virus or trojan

Reason 2: Your antivirus has deleted rundll32.exe because your PC was infected by a malicious program

Reason 3: This is a false error message and some malicious program is going to trick you that way.

What is rundll32.exe?

rundll32.exe is a System required process and it shouldn’t be disabled. Please note: rundll32.exe is needed for essential applications to work properly

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Put the Windows XP CD ROM disk in the CD ROM drive.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type expand X:\i386\rundll32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe in the Open box, where X is the letter of your CD ROM Drive.
4. Restart the computer.

Or an easy way is to copy that file from another computer in C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe and replace back.

It should work for you.

Best way to fix windows xp auto log off after login

My previous post say that “Windows Automatically logoff after logon” . but it still not a good solution are encounter this problems even we have done the fresh windows installed !!!

what I suggest you to do is : PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU SCAN YOUR WHOLE HARD DRIVE WITH THE LATEST VIRUSES DEFINITION FILES. You can do this by taking off your hard drive and connect to another computer to scan OR please do not double click on any .exe files from other partitions after you reinstalled new windows.

So the problems is After you clean the viruses you won’t be able to log on to your windows desktop. I think here is the best ways to fix it:

Step 1: Create a BartPe Bootable CD
“BartPE” (Bart Preinstalled Environment) is the bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP that we can say Live CD that, very suitable for PC maintenance tasks.

To built it by ur selves please go to : http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ to download the PeBuilder latest version and read the instruction to built your own bootable CD.

Step 2: Verifying and fixing the Userinit.ext

1. Insert the BartPE CD into the drive, and boot the system from the CD. Once the file loading phase is over, the Bart PE desktop will be visible.
2. Type Regedit.exe in the prompt, and press Enter. Select the HKEY_USERS hive

3. From the File menu, choose the Load Hive option. Browse to your Windows installation drive

C:\Windows\System32\Config\

4. Select the file named SOFTWARE (the file without any extensions), and click Open

5. Type a name for the hive that you’ve loaded now. (Example: MYHOUSE)
6. Now the SOFTWARE hive is loaded, and present under the HKEY_USERS base hive.
7. In order to fix the Userinit value in the loaded hive, navigate to the following location:

HKEY_USERS \ MYHOUSE\ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon

8. Double-click Userinit and set it’s value correctly. Example: Set it’s data as follows:

C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,

Note: If there is no Userinit.exe existed on your system, Please use the windows CD to copy it back as my previous post said.

Good luck!

Windows Automatically Logoff after logon!

For long time ago , I experiment with this problem too many times. and what I can do with it is, Format and Reinstall the windows. But now This problems happened on my boss’s computer, That why I have to try my best to find the solution to fix for him.

Please read the latest Instruction!!!

I have google it many time ago, but still can not find the right solution for this kind of virus. But I think depending on the level of the infection. if you were in the medium ,you maybe lucky!

This problems happened after you clean that virus from your computer ( I don’t remember what is the name of virus). So if yo have the same problems as me , hope you maybe able to fix it also:

1-Because of the virus infected to your system, So make sure you use the antivirus ( Symantec, AVG Free Edition, Kaspersky,… ) to clean it from ur system.

2-After the anti virus found and clean it, PLEASE MAKE SURE DON’T RESTART YOUR COMPUTER !!! , if you restart you will no longer to enter your windows desktop.

3-Click start > run > type “regedit” and locate this registry path:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

You will see a key named: Userinit then double click on it and pasted the following value:

C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe,

Here the screenshot:
userinit-mh1

4- If the “UserInit.exe” is currupted or damaged , you have to repair it using the Windows Recovery Console. to copy the file back:

a. Insert the original Windows XP CD (Windows XP with Service Pack 2 is preferred, but not required) and reboot the computer. You may need to configure your computer to boot from the CD-ROM drive.
b. When the Windows XP Setup has started, press “R” to “repair the Windows XP installation using Recovery Console”.
c. Select the Windows installation to repair (generally this is C:\Windows) by typing its number and then pressing ENTER.
d. Type the Administrator password and press ENTER.
e. Type the following commands:

D: [ENTER]
CD I386 [ENTER]
EXPAND USERINIT.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 [ENTER]

NOTE: If your CD-ROM drive has a different letter assigned to it, enter “X:” instead, where X is the appropriate drive letter.
After entering “EXPAND USERINIT.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32” you should see the text “1 file(s) copied”, in which case all went well.
Remove the Windows XP CD, type “EXIT” and press ENTER to restart your computer. You should now be able to log on as normally.

Prevent your computer from Viruses

Symantec Security Response encourages all users and administrators to adhere to the following basic security “best practices” to prevent the virus attack to your computer:

* Use a firewall to block all incoming connections from the Internet to services that should not be publicly available. By default, you should deny all incoming connections and only allow services you explicitly want to offer to the outside world.

* Enforce a password policy. Complex passwords make it difficult to crack password files on compromised computers. This helps to prevent or limit damage when a computer is compromised.

* Ensure that programs and users of the computer use the lowest level of privileges necessary to complete a task. When prompted for a root or UAC password, ensure that the program asking for administration-level access is a legitimate application.

* Disable AutoPlay to prevent the automatic launching of executable files on network and removable drives, and disconnect the drives when not required. If write access is not required, enable read-only mode if the option is available.

* Turn off file sharing if not needed. If file sharing is required, use ACLs and password protection to limit access. Disable anonymous access to shared folders. Grant access only to user accounts with strong passwords to folders that must be shared.

* Turn off and remove unnecessary services. By default, many operating systems install auxiliary services that are not critical. These services are avenues of attack. If they are removed, threats have less avenues of attack.

* If a threat exploits one or more network services, disable, or block access to, those services until a patch is applied.

* Always keep your patch levels up-to-date, especially on computers that host public services and are accessible through the firewall, such as HTTP, FTP, mail, and DNS services.

* Configure your email server to block or remove email that contains file attachments that are commonly used to spread threats, such as .vbs, .bat, .exe, .pif and .scr files.

* Isolate compromised computers quickly to prevent threats from spreading further. Perform a forensic analysis and restore the computers using trusted media.

* Train employees not to open attachments unless they are expecting them. Also, do not execute software that is downloaded from the Internet unless it has been scanned for viruses. Simply visiting a compromised Web site can cause infection if certain browser vulnerabilities are not patched.

* If Bluetooth is not required for mobile devices, it should be turned off. If you require its use, ensure that the device’s visibility is set to “Hidden” so that it cannot be scanned by other Bluetooth devices. If device pairing must be used, ensure that all devices are set to “Unauthorized”, requiring authorization for each connection request. Do not accept applications that are unsigned or sent from unknown sources.
